A Ton of Anime News Landed During the Holidays
The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of activities much better than scanning the latest news: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at family members. Hopefully you were able to do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments surfaced over the holidays, and just in case you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising announcement, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt more episodes. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
